Reporting Your Scores You must officially report your scores to colleges through the testing agency (i.e., the ACT, or the College Board for the SAT). Each time you register for either test, you will be able to send four score reports at no cost. You may not want to include the test-optional schools in your four free score reports when you sign up for the test. Instead, wait to see how your score compares to average scores at those schools, and then send your score only if it is equal to or higher than the average. Additional score reports cost $14 per college for the SAT and $18.50 per college for the ACT. Additional fees apply if priority processing is requested. If you take the SAT or ACT more than once, the College Board and ACT allow you to choose which set of scores you wish to report, although some colleges require you to submit all of your test scores. Many colleges “superscore” your results, meaning they combine your best score from each section of the test to give you your highest possible score. If you have applied to a test-optional school, remember that you are not required to send your scores to that school. Compare your score to the average at that school, consider whether you think your score helps your individual application, and then decide. If you took an AP exam and received a score of 4 or 5, submitting your score can give you an advantage when applying to selective colleges. You can self-report these scores in the Common Application; this shows you have a mastery of college-level material. Then, after you’ve been accepted and committed to that college, you can pay for official score reports from the College Board to be sent. This will ensure you receive college credit or that the college will allow you to skip introductory courses. Do not report scores of 3, 2, or 1. Pathways to Prosperity
