“As a North Philadelphia native, I found myself significantly behind my peers academically during my time at Penn State. However, this only pushed me harder to get help. I wanted a successful future and knew this was the only option that could work for me. If I can just encourage one student not to give up their academic dreams, even if they get discouraged along the way, that would be an amazing achievement for me.”
Samantha Monterio first got involved with Heights in 2017 while completing her senior year at Little Flower Catholic High School for Girls. Sam is now a Dermatology Medical Assistant and an incoming first-year medical student attending Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, PCOM, for medical school, Class of 2028!
As a Heights Alum and Volunteer, Sam has firsthand experience of what it is like to be a current student. She genuinely wants to help support students in any way possible as they continue on their college or career pathway.
